Equipped for every good work

t sat, forgotten in the top of my hall closet for months. Waiting for me to return it to the store. I had forgotten it was up there until I decided to clean out the top of the closet.

A knife sharpener! Oh yes, I remember now... purchased before our last chicken butchering episode, but deemed not "heavy-duty" enough for the job, it was set aside in my "I'll return these later" pile.

My knife drawer is full with a dizzying and potentially scary (if they were sharp) assortment of knives. Some given to Tom and I as wedding gifts 24 years ago, many passed along to me by my mother and grandmother. A wonderful assortment... if you are slicing butter. Warm butter.

My knives are ridiculously dull. So dull that the children have joked that it doesn't matter which side you use to slice with!

Enter my small cleaning spree and the "unwanted" knife sharpener. I'd waited too long to return it, so we decided to use it! Lo and behold... it worked! I now have sharp knives.

The sobering thing to me is how easy (and ineffective) it was to try to "make do" when I had the resources available all along to deal with the problem at hand...

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
2 Tim. 3:16,17

  1. Oh I love it!! Thanks for the encouragement~

  2. This is so true! How often do I forget.

    2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

  3. What an excellent illustration Susan! Oh, if only we would treasure up HIS Word and hide more of it in our hearts for mediation and to keep us from sin! We are so blessed to have such an amazing resource right at our fingertips.

    Have a lovely week my friend!

  4. We never need to just "make do" right??? Thanks for the reminder.
