Right Now

Around here right now we are saying hello to summer.  We are splashing in the pool and delighting in sun on skin, bare toes and flip flops.  We are transitioning to our summer school schedule and all of the impromptu fun that goes along with that.  The older boys are working their lawn business and taking some college courses.

Around here right now I am totally delighting in my strong healthy heart... so grateful to the Lord for every sweaty run, every hill climbed on my bike and every lap swam.  I am so encouraged by my progress that I am tentatively planning on competing in my first half-Ironman triathlon this fall.

Around here right now we are enjoying garden produce, picking fresh blueberries and trying out numerous cheese recipes with the great abundance of milk that our goats have blessed us with.

Around here right now we are exploring drawing and watercolor paints, we will be sewing and quilting, painting walls, gardening and delighting in more time to pursue all things creatively domestic.

Around here right now my soul is being fed in new ways as I listen to the Daily Audio Bible podcast.

Around here right now I am delighting in each day in its uniqueness, joyfully embracing all that the the Lord has for us in these long daylight summer days.

Thanks *so* much for praying and checking in on me, my friends!

  3. Susan~ So glad you are having such a wonderful summer and a healthy heart.
Just curious...But what kind of wood is on your counter top with the stainless steel sink?
Did you buy it or build it and what did you do to the surface to keep water from soaking in?
I love its natural beauty and we are working on an island for our kitchen.
    Thanks so much!
    Love, Kristin

    1. Hi there Kristin!

I do love our butcher block countertops! The cabinet company that made our kitchen cabinets made them for us… I'm sorry, I don't remember what kind of wood it was made out of, but I can tell you that I have been pleasantly pleased with their durability in our large family. I really thought that the countertops would look *much* more distressed than they do after almost 4 years. Seriously nice.

As far as care goes, when we initially got the countertops, we coated the wood with mineral oil… a thick, thick coat at night. We let it sit and soak in overnight, then wiped off any excess oil in the morning. Initially, the wood was dry and almost completely absorbed the oil overnight. We only treat it every 9-12 months now. It just doesn't seem to need it as often. It probably also helps that I regularly make bread and put oil on the kitchen island to work with the bread dough and shape it into loaves.

How fun to get a new island! Hope you enjoy it!
